I have written this important questions to ask wedding photographers guide in a question and answer format. All answers are my own, but please ask these questions in your own search for a photographer. Or check a photographer’s website for a similar frequently asked questions page. I am very open when it comes to these questions while being interview by potential couples, which is why I have made it a full article here. I am never offend by those who genuinely ask, as I have come to learn that these question often come from general curiosity, online wedding planning guides OR past experiences.

q: are all the images edited?
Yes. This is a really important question to ask any photographer. Some photographers will heavily edit a handful of your images, and then rest may have slight corrections or possibly no editing. It’s important to ask to see a past clients full wedding gallery. You want to be sure your photographer can be consistent throughout a wedding day with various lighting. Can they light a dark reception venue with multiple flashes? Can they rock those ‘not so fun’, but very important family photos that you will most likely print?
q: do you bring back up equipment?
Absolutely. In fact, I shoot with two cameras on my person for the whole day. In addition to my professional cameras, I have many extra lenses, cameras, batteries, memory cards and lighting gear to cover any situation or environment.
q: are you a legal business with insurance?
Yes! I am totally covered. I have liability and equipment coverage through Main Street America. If your venue needs a certificate of insurance from me, be sure to ask us ahead of time. A certificate can easily be emailed in about one business day.
q: how do you handle a typical wedding day?
I love getting to know my couples! That way you are comfortable and I can bring out the best ‘you’ in your photos. I get told very often that I’m very good at putting people at ease. I would describe my image style as vibrant, yet true to life. My style as a photographer is to be as thorough as possible in our pre-planning, so that the wedding day can run as smooth as possible. (This includes asking you what you want and what’s most important!) I have a good balance of taking the reins and directing, but also stepping back when necessary. My priority on your wedding day is that I am there for you!
q: will you travel to our wedding?
Yes! I’m are based out of Worcester County Massachusetts, and I regularly photograph all over New England. Far away events may require an overnight stay. If I have to paraglide, float or hike to shoot your wedding there may be additional costs.
q: do you offer a military discount?
Absolutely yes. I am are happy to offer 10% off wedding bookings to any active or retired military service members, and their soon to be spouses. I appriciate you both, thank you.
q: how long will it take to see all our photos?
I don’t think you should have to wait 2 months to see your photos … Part of my skill-set, and the experience of working with me, is my efficiency and consistent work ethic.
Post wedding I cull and edit all images so they are ready for printing. Typically, your private gallery of all edited images will be available for you to view no later than 4 weeks after your wedding.
q: how will you be dressed at our wedding?
My goal is to blend in at your wedding; therefore I make sure to dress professionally and neatly, yet comfortable enough to jump into action! I always ask what type of wedding you’re having. It would be unprofessional to show up to a black tie event underdressed. I am often complimented on my choice to not “dress in all black.” My About page has great examples.
q: do you discriminate?
It saddens me that this even needs to been stated anymore. It has become apparent that certain lines of personal questioning are becoming popular in this industry, outside of the job at hand (ie. photography.)
I am soul-ly here on this planet for the purpose of love. It’s why I am passionate about weddings. Weddings unify many different humans under the common theme of love. I do not discriminate (for any reason), and I expect the same in return.
- Audrey Cutler Photography does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of medical status/history, race, color, religion/creed, gender, gender expression, age, national origin/ancestry, disability, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
q: can you hold our date? how do we book you for our wedding?
First, you need to contact me and tell me a bit about you and your wedding details. We can meet at my office, chat via video call. Next, I will send you an online booking proposal with your collection choice. Then, you send back your signed electronic contract and deposit (Super easy, no worries!). Once I have those two things you are officially booked and the date is reserved for you! YAY!
q: what’s the ‘craziest’ thing you’ve experience at a wedding?
I have seen it all, and not much phases me these days. I have had the privilege to witnessed and be a part of some pretty amazing moments. Here are a few of my favorites:
- A surprise flash mob during a reception toast. (It was amazing!)
- Flying in a helicopter with the bride and groom to make their grand entrance into their reception.
- Rene Rancourt (Boston Burins) surprise a groom by interrupting their first dance by singing to him.
- A bride escorted down the aisle by her 5 grandchildren. (Cue the aww’s)
- An April fools day wedding. (and yes, it was for real)
- A 32 person bridal party. (yep, I’m not kidding)
- A Day of the Dead/Witch themed wedding in Salem, MA.
- A ceremony ON a historic covered bridge in Maine.
- An intimate elopement on the top of a mountain at sunset.
- A bride and groom get married with their parents wedding bands because the best man forgot the rings! (‘May I have the rings?…..)
